Chests are how Clash Royale hands out cards and gold. The old timed chest cycle — unlock a Silver or Magical chest, wait hours or spend gems — was retired in the March 2025 update. Today's chests open instantly and scale with a Chest Level that rises as you climb the Trophy Road. Below are the current reward containers, then the classic chests kept for reference.

Common
The everyday Trophy Road / Daily Battle reward chest. Opens instantly as a slot-style reveal of 3 spins containing Cards and Gold. Its Chest Level rises as you climb Arenas, boosting rewards.

Magic Lucky Chest

A richer Lucky Chest with 4 spins that can drop Wild Cards, Evolution Shards and cosmetics in addition to Cards and Gold. A max-level (5-Star / Level 16) Magic Lucky Chest sits at the end of Trophy Road.

A premium chest that lets you pick your reward — not just between Cards, but from a selection of resources (Gold, Gems, Wild Cards, Evolution Shards) and cosmetics (Banners, Emotes, Tower Skins). Scales across 16 chest levels.

Lightning Chest

3 different Cards2–6 Strikes (rerolls) by Arena
Guarantees 3 different Cards and lets you spend 'Strikes' to reroll cards you don't want, replaced by another card of the same rarity and amount. Higher-Arena Lightning Chests grant more Strikes.

Legendary King's Chest

The top-tier reward chest. Guarantees a Legendary Card and uses a 'card drafting' mechanic where you choose between two cards at a time. Available from Arena 11 upward; at high Arenas it can also include Champion cards.

An event / Pass Royale reward box that contains only Hero (Champion) Fragments. Introduced for higher-Arena players; star level sets the fragment payout.

Live 2026 box, added in the Dec 2025 update (free track from ~Arena 15). Awards Hero Fragments (e.g. 5 / 10 / 40 / 200 per tier). Odds (official Mar 2026 post): ~34.3% 2-Star, ~52.1% 3-Star, ~12.6% 4-Star, ~1.0% 5-Star.
Crown Chest
Special
A daily bonus chest earned by collecting 10 Crowns from battles within a 24-hour window. Contains Cards, Gold and Gems.

Unverified · Long-running daily reward. Historically a legacy timed chest; in the current build it functions as an instant daily crown reward. Contents scale with Arena; exact totals not firmly sourced for 2026.

The very first chest, given only during the tutorial. Opened almost instantly and contained a small handful of starter cards and Gold.

A recurring free chest that generated roughly every 4 hours (up to 2 stored) and contained Gems, Gold and a few cards.

Silver Chest

The most common battle-won chest in the classic cycle. Mostly Common cards, with a Rare from Arena 5+.

How do chests work in Clash Royale now?
The classic timed chest cycle (Silver, Gold, Giant, Magical…) was retired in the March 2025 update. Modern chests — Lucky Chests, Choice Chests, Lightning and King's chests, Evolution and Hero boxes — open instantly as reward reveals, and their rewards scale with a Chest Level (1–16) that rises as you climb the Trophy Road.
What are the odds inside a Lucky Chest?
Per Supercell's March 2026 drop-rate post, each Lucky Chest spin is roughly 31% one-star, 46% two-star, 19% three-star and 4% four-star. Exact card and gold totals depend on your Chest Level, so they aren't fixed numbers.
Do old chests like the Super Magical still exist?
No — the Silver, Golden, Giant, Magical, Super Magical, Epic and Legendary chests are legacy content, removed when the chest system was reworked. We keep them listed for reference and history, clearly marked as retired.
